Does anyone think it would be dangerous (cause a fire?) to put a folded paper towel down on the valve cover and drive in order to find the source of my leak(s)? I currently have a piece strategically placed with cutouts for the spark plug wires etc.

Drove around town and boosted the turbo several times- tightening the heck out of the PVC snorkel hose seems to have fixed things- will keep an eye on it.

That thing's a common one. I had issues with that too.

I hope it's not a URO hose on there...mine kept blowing off. Finally got fed up, ordered the Volvo hose, and no leaks in that area since.

Other oil leaks...well, that's another story.

I still have a leak after driving it today- it's from one of the valve cover bolts- probably 2Tbs full after driving it about 20 miles- any suggestions?

MIJ, earlier in this thread JD suggested a thread sealant. I had to do that as well to stop a leak from one of the bolts.

If you remember- post up- I looked but couldn't find it- currently there is grey Permatex but don't know if it will hold or not.

I don't know if this was already said previously, but jblackburn… your cam cover was definitely not sealed with anaerobic sealant! Anaerobic sealant never hardens, it seems some type of RTV was used, hence the leak you had.

I wasn't able to read all 7 pages, only saw the first few, so if you've re-done the job with the correct stuff, then wahoo!

Oops - sorry. Grey Permatex is what he advised (worked for me on that leaking bolt at the back). I believe NAPA, maybe other auto parts stores have it.

Make sure to clean as much of the oil as you can out of the hole, or it won't set up.

From JD below:

Short cuts:
Take out the bolt and use a little permatex ultra grey (1157) on the bolt and shaft sealing it to the head and cam cover. Torque to spec and clean area after RTV sets up. Check in a few hours of running.

If still leaking go to car quest and buy a bottle of AT-205. Put in and clean leak area after 5 hours of engine use. Then observe for leaks after a few more hours of operation.

If neither works then call volvo for Volvo sealant and get ready to pull the cam cover . Remember to mark the timing belts direction of travel so you can put it back the right way.
