Found a listing for 06 s40 manual transmission with "blown head gasket" that won't start. Listing notes that it's sat in the driveway for 3 years. It's listed for $400. Would I be crazy for trying to fix it?

Three years ... pull the dipstick. If there has been coolant in the crankcase for three years. It will need a lot more then a top end rebuild.

Yeah, that’s a very good point. The last time a car I bought “just needed a head gasket” it turned into a new engine. The cylinder walls were horribly rusted when I pulled the head off.
The problem is that people use water in the cooling system to save money since the HG is leaking, then if it gets into the combustion chambers and sits for an extended period of time, bad things happen. Same goes for the crankcase.

Thought someone might be interested in the interior seats on this. If it's well maintained might be a good parts car. Or good enough to drive around on its own idk.

Volvo S70 sedan

White/ tan leather

Moon roof, alloys, power front seats, climate control a/c and heat, 2 keys, 2 remotes.

Extremely clean inside and out.

Leather is in excellent condition with NO rips or tears.

NO hail damage, NO stars or cracks in windshield.

64 k miles, yes....... that's right only 64 k miles !

This is a unicorn for sure.

An elderly ladies car originally from Texas that was garaged it's whole life and driven very little over it's lifetime.

(Remember the little ole lady who only drive her car to church on Sunday? This is her car !!!!!

The following has been done in the last 2k miles and/or this month:

Complete timing belt service including H2O pump, tensioners, idler, etc. (mileage 62.2k, 12/16)
New spark plugs
Rear engine mount
Upper torque mount
Upper strut springs
4 wheel alignment
R/F door lock actuator
Brake flush
Antifreeze flush

Oil and filter change 4/20
4 new (40k warranty tires) 4/20

This is a Non-turbo, runs on regular gas and averages mid 20's mpg.

1998 is one of the best years for a Volvo.

It is the last year before the coil pacs (drive by wire) and other electronic changes and is the most desirable of the 3 yrs this car was made from 98-2000.

With average mileage of 12k /year, a l998 vehicle should have at least 264.000 miles, BUT this car only has 64k, 200,000 miles LESS!

That's leaves a lot of years of driving left to experience with this car.

Everything has been maintained routinely and all services are up to date.

If you are a true Volvo lover, this is the car for you and the ideal car to put a new driver in.

This is almost like a barn find vehicle.

Asking $4250

Hurry as I know the first person to see the car will buy it.

Remember that this car needs absolutely nothing and ALL services are up to date.

If I had any desire to drive a 850 again, THIS WOULD BE IT! That car is gorgeous! Good options as well. $4K is cheap. You'd spend at least that buying a cheap one and fixing it up. Yet you won't have a clean original like this one.

Being as this is Matthew's 850 site, please one of you enthusiast get this one! It would be a shame for a non Volvo enthusiast to buy this one to run it in the ground... BTW I am aware it's a S70 badge wise. It's still a 850 in my book. June

Yes, being a 1998 no ETM!!! Good ole 850 under the hood! Yet it's had a freshen up as you said Matt. One of us on here MUST buy this one. I normally don't comment on used cars other than posting something interesting I run across. But this car is exactly what you want to see!!!!!!!! I'd hate to see a doofus who should drive a Honda or Toyota buy this and six months later send it to scrap with a blown engine or transmission out of ignorance. June
