What are we not supposed to use the oven for backing powder coated parts, drying parts or heating shrink to fit parts? Dishwasher for for cleaning parts?? :o

Made the mistake going back to the junkyard to look for parts for others. This is a process I should not be allowed to do unsupervised!

I was finding wood dash parts for a friend and already had the center console section and the glove box. I did not have time to try to rescue the center section the last time. In reality it can be removed with great difficulty by dropping the 2 undertrays, and removing the radio and AC control unit and finally the glove box liner. With my gimpy arm it is not fu when you have arthritis in your hands to work with your hands in strange positions. Also, as I had already pulled the glove box lid and liner, as well as the center console, it is not a huge amount of work just to pull the dash top, the speedo cluster, steering wheel and then in the engine bay the wiper arms and cover, the wiper motor and then the 4 dashboard lower section 4 bolt.

Maybe an hour or so and the dash was out and then another 5-10 minutes and the center wood section was out undamaged. Really glad I went that far as I discovered that all 4 of the main mounts are un-cracked!! So this is where it gets dangerous, so I removed the 2 side sections and saved the main section. Naturally this meant that came home along with the wiper motor and mechanism as I don't have a spare!

Nice shiny center wood section!

Shame there was no rear ash tray section with the wooden inlay. Not seen many of those. Nor a gear shift knob, but I may have a matching one in my stash! (Doesn't everyone....! )

Then there is my Volvo mechanic buddy who mentioned a young former colleague was looking for an S70 trunk spoiler. There were x 2 silver S70's both with spoilers. It wasn't until I looked closer I realized one had the plain spoiler and the other had the optional high level brake light. Strangely on removing it was not wired?

Although a bit of a swine to remove due to copious use of double died tape, They both came home, mostly as the mounts which are NLA came home as well! :D

And as you do, you look around for other parts. I was looking for 2 wiring pig tails to test the VVT valves, to find the 99 NA had never had one fitted?? and the GLT had the newer style with the 180 degree bend and wiring connector mod. So that VVT solenoid came home too!

Then there was the Antenna ring with an un-broken mounting tab, 2 small dash speakers..........

Then a trip to another yard to check out 2 x 850's for parts for my brother's car. Naturally both were at opposite ends of the yard!!

Well then I found a 98 V70 with undamaged/split trim strips on the roof. So those came home along with an 97 850 owner's handbook.

Unfortunately, a good 850 steering wheel still evades the search!

A good 850 steering wheel is not an easy thing to find! I've only had a few of them over the years.

That I know. I might try out in B.C. as their climate tends to be kinder to plastics/vinyls.

scot850, in all of your junkyard radio accumulation, have you ever found part 9150773, the single DIN pocket under a single DIN radio? I've never seen either a P80 single DIN radio or the pocket. It's nice and fuzzy like the glove compartment. I'm replacing the SC-810 on two V70s with single DIN radios and would like the Volvo pocket instead of some cheap aftermarket one which doesn't fit. The pocket lists for $61 if it's truly still available, maybe $50 if I get it on sale.

I wish I had self-service junkyards closer to me... and a place to store all the parts I'd pull. I located a nice self-service yard with a nice interior 1998, but they had sold the doors so rain water flooded the car and ruin the parts I needed.
scot850 wrote: 10 Aug 2023, 17:35 I pulled some parts for hard working friends as well, ETM, inlet VVT solenoid, various trim pieces as well as another beige trunk liner. Just can't let those get scrapped! I now have 3 and no beige interior cars!
I'm just glad they still make the trunk liner in black. I'm hoping that usparts.volvocars.com will have a sale in August so I can get a deal on one. If the mat was NLA, I'd plan a road trip to Canada to beg for one of your beige ones.

If only there was a mat for a wagon's rear seats when folded down. That's what I really need. And no lip at the front edge of the trunk mat to allow a continuous surface from trunk to seat backs. Perhaps I'd have to buy two trunk mats and merge them together somehow...

Hi,

You mean that there is no way to look up the part number?
How would a garage go about getting this identification, any ideas?
There are two different purge valves and both are specified for the emission code (VIN position 8) on my car. Fitment charts tell you to “ replace with same part as part on car”. Less than helpful

Hi,

Oh that sounds like fun.
These little slip-ups can make life a bitch sometimes. They probably thought that was a specification and didn't think it through.

Nice pics in your previous post.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
