DiCE not working when plugged into OBDII port

Post by gnalan »

I can't get my genuine Volvo DiCE to work. If I plug it into a wall outlet, and test everything, the DiCE unit works just fine. If I plug it into the diagnostic port under the dash it doesn't do anything (no flashing or solid lights).

I really hope my DiCE isn't broken, since the warranty is up on it, and I don't want to spend another $650 for a replacement.

Has anyone had this problem and can help me get my Volvo DiCE working properly again? (I haven't yet, but I was thinking about unplugging the OBD cable from the main board and checking for power at the other end. Maybe the cable is bad?)

I plugged my generic OBDII scanner in to check the diagnostic port, and it gave me a cylinder 5 misfire code, plus let me clear the CEL, so I'm assuming the diagnostic port in the car is working the way it should be.

I took it apart, and checked the cable. All seemed fine. When I plugged everything back into the board I made sure I pushed each wire down, one at a time to fully seat them, before I put it all back together. I plugged it into the car and it was working again, thankfully.

Sounds like the connector was producing a high resistance on the V-bat or ground line. If it does it again clean the connectors.
Most likely tarnish and it does not take very much.
