1996 850 Need to buy AC compressor controller relay 9130270

Post by 850forum »

Mechanic has been poking around for a long time & thinks its the AC compressor controller relay, behind the glove box.
The AC will blow 40 degrees out the vent, but after a while it quits. First thought maybe something was freezing up, but now thinks its that relay. Any other ideas out there?

Cannot find it for sale.

1996 850 turbo wagon. EDIT: correction, 1995 model year.

Volvo PN 9130270
also marked Hella 303520-52
It has FIVE prongs

Ouch. Unless the 1996 model has a different wiring harness the AC relay is in the kidney shape fusebox under the hood, left side of car , labeled under the cover.

If your mechanic hasn’t checked the AC clutch gap for sporadic AC, they don’t know the trade too well. Search here for bread clip or zip tie fix. It’s common on high mileage Valeo ACcompressors

Plus one on the clutch air gap. I've always had better luck measuring from under.

Found three relays on eBay, you might get lucky on a J/Y expedition. If all else fails, reach out to Robert Spinner (rspi); he's in pick-n-pulls almost daily.

The 850s do not have the same fusebox as the 98-00's.

My '97 would do the cool, then not cool thing when it was getting low on charge. Sometimes I could get it to cool again after turning the AC off and back on again after a short bit. Charged it up back in May and haven't had the issue since.

>found three relays on eBay,

what search term? "car part: volvo pn 9130270" finds nothing
ditto "car part: hella 303520-52"

This at least has 5 prongs, have to go check the original part to see if their orientation is the same:

I just asked Google to go fetch 9130270, and she found some:

www.ebay.com/itm/153867763265?chn=ps&_t ... 4oEALw_wcB

This one is slightly more reasonably valued:

www.ebay.com/itm/203761526139?chn=ps&_t ... 82EALw_wcB

Plunk the naked number into the eBay motors search template, it returns several more listings.

And don't overlook the clutch air gap measurement, it is such a common problem there are multiple threads on the issue. I don't remember the factory spec ( .015-.018" ? ) but when mine gauge at .035" I get out the small wire ties and lay on the floor for a while.

How do I find that template page?
I bought two for $9 each since its free shipping, doubles my odds of getting a good one.
Thanks so much for finding it.
