P80 Steering wheel compatibility?

Post by scot850 »

My brother in the US has a 97 850 NA SE, and the steering wheel plastic is breaking up now in the CA sunshine.

Can you fit a steering wheel from a 98-00 or later C70 (-04) to and 850? Do you need the matching airbag?

I have a nearly mint steering wheel I can send him from a 99 S70, if they are interchangeable.

Thanks,

Neil.

Are interchangeable. I changed the steering wheel from 850 to S70. The airbag is a little different because of the design. Connectors are the same.

I don't know your situation. In such cases, we send by passing transport.

The shipping companies don't like shipping airbags! Seen as explosives.

Thanks,

Neil.

Reach out to our friend Robert, I'll bet he has swapped a few - but as the good Doctor points out, the airbag control stuff changed behind the '99 dark times. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

I will ask Robert. The airbag changes were mainly to the way the system was activated from mechanical to electrical.

Haven't had a chance to check Vida yet to see if they are listed as fitting different models.

Thanks,

Neil.

It's ONLY on SIPS airbags.
Driver's & passenger's airbags were all electronically activated.

But...check '99 & '00 steering wheel airbag if it would work on pre '99...i'm not sure on this.

S70 99 two-stage airbag, no.
S70 99 single, yes.
Technical documentation is not publicly available. If I'm wrong, correct.
