Hey all

Just got home from driving, no new warning messages when I woke up but when I parked it for an hour and came back I got a 2 for 1 combo.

My ABS light came on and I got a brake assist service message and a abs/anti skid message both at the same time, both lights have stayed on constantly since appearing (I've seen a lot of posts about people with similar issues but the lights seem to come on or off intermittently)

Taking it to a mechanic, not sure if they have vida or an alternative scanner, but they're gonna take a look and see what's up. No issues when braking so far but I've got a week till it's in the shop.

I'm hoping it's not the whole module that's gone bad but I'd assume I'd have more driving issues in that case. If it does end up being the whole computer, does anyone know if the re soldering trick still works on an 05 cause

EDIT: Issue has been solved, had ABS module replaced, issue has not returned since

There are several issues that can cause this and not all obvious. Have them scan it or see if there is a local Volvo specialist that has the test equipment.

Worst case there is Don Docksteader Volvo. In Calgary the dealer charges $170 + GST for a diagnostic.

Is your starter good? Check my thread here for relevance viewtopic.php?t=100183

I will say most of my abs woes were a result of a bad tone ring in the front or bad wheel bearing in the back.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

Starter good i think, starts up perfect 9/10 times, I've had 2 times where I had to hold the key a second or 2 and it kind of half started before stalling but it always starts up the next try after. Tbh not sure why this happens but it also hasn't happened since switching to 91 octane (was running regular so 87 or 89)

When your tone rings went or your wheel bearing went did the light stay or was it one of the intermittent lights that come and go? A lot of people talk of lights that come on and off but that's not happened with mine yet which makes me worry it's gonna be expensive

Light stays on solid. A broken tone ring will never feedback correct wheel speed.

Call partsource or another local parts store (carquest, napa) and ask if their code reader reads ABS codes. Those places will scan your car for free.

Look up the thread I’m active in regarding the JLR Mongoose Pro. I got it for about $50 shipped and it works flawlessly with VIDA.

Looking into one of those jlr clones for the future.

Car was off all night, started it for my commute to school. Car still had the abs light and dtsc temp disabled message when started but my warning messages in the text box were different, the light also went away completely in about 15 seconds.

So to cut it short I'm not thinking tone ring anymore, gonna wait to get it scanned by a mechanic.
Thanks for telling me about the Mongoose I feel I'm 1 step closer to understanding how to get an at home Vida computer set up
