2015 (+ - ) S60 buying advice

Post by hu5ker555 »

My son and I have a long history of owning S60's. I had a 2005, and now have a 2008 with 220k miles running strong.
He's had a 2001 and 2005 S80, then a 2015 S60 Premier which was recently totaled in an accident. He's looking to replace with another 2015 or so S60. Any words of wisdom on what to look for? Before it was totaled, we had to sink $2k into a new water pump, thermostat, and some other items. But all-in-all it was a good vehicle and kept him safe in a crash. Would consider buying one remotely and having it shipped, if it were from a reputable dealer with a decent return policy but have never tried this before. Any suggestions appreciated.

You’ll want to research the piston ring/oil burning issue, from what I understand that was in 2015-16 cars? Some googling may help what to look for on that.

Funny, I just received something in the mail that appeared to say that Volvo is recalling for this sort of issue and fixing it free of charge?

Only after their test that shows it is burning oil. Apparently they change the oil then check the level after x number of miles. Likely some threads on it here…my Volvos are too old to be looking at those threads lol.

At least replacing the oil trap on these 2015+- S60's is soooo much easier than on the earlier P2 versions.
Took about 20 mins on the 2015. Took about 8 hours on the 2005. My hands will never be the same.

I have a similar question, is 2013 S60 engine good?
Coming from P80 (1998 S70/V70) and P2 (2007 S60 2.5T), I am familiar with thoses cars.

Is the 2013-2015 S60 that much different than the P2?

T6 is of course very robust. Frankly, I'd avoid a T5. Pretty comprehensive overview.
