I am now testing some of all the audio units I have seemed to have accumulated. I am trying to test a 6 CD changer but can't seem to work out how to get it to read a disc.
Do you need to fully load it before it will work with 6 discs?
It goes through the process of checking the discs, but I have only got 2 original CD's loaded but it does not seem to want to play them.
I have not used the 6 CD changer in any of my P-80's as I fitted SC-901 units with the built in 3 CD changer instead.
I plan to remove the casing and see if the laser needs cleaned as this is similar to the issue with the 3CD head units when they are dirty.
Thanks,
Neil.

One disc is enough, all six not necessary. Sounds like you are installing the disks upside-down possibly? Try flipping them. June

Thanks June. My wife said the same in terms of you don't need all 6 discs in slots. I forgot she used to have one in one of her cars.
I followed the instructions on the unit and the pull outs state to put the disc label a certain way, which is what I did. For giggles it might be worth trying the other way around to be certain. Thanks for the suggestion!
I know the previous owner who left it with me and I will check with him if he knew if it did actually work. I found a label on the back with writing on it with something about stuck discs..................!

The label goes up in the cassette drawer. Most CD changers from the 90ies are shot by now or at least work insufficient.

Thanks for the info!
Firstly the CD cassette:
So above is a picture of the 6-CD cassette. So I placed a CD with the label upwards on the insert as shown. I believe that is correct from the handbook. These are pre-recorded original discs and not copies.
CD changer is a Volvo one, but thanks for the warning on the Alpine unit not being compatible. The unit is set up for vertical mounting (there is something on the side to allow you to change it to Horizontal) and had the wagon mounts attached for sitting on it's back in the trunk area on the LHS.
I did ask in one of my other thread if using the wrong wire diameter could cause an issue. The unit loads the cassette OK, seems to go through the process of checking for disks, but then comes back to a Disc 0-00 readout on the head unit which I am assuming means no discs seen? If you press any of the 6 number buttons, nothing happens. The only correct connector I had was from a small speaker and they use a smaller diameter wire than the main speakers (maybe half the diameter). Could that be an issue the unit is not gettin enough power to operate?

I actually doubt that the wire diameter would cause issues. You'd feel the wire getting really hot if it had too much load running through it.
