Nice seats at junkyards

Post by FireFox31 »

I'm searching for nice seats in junkyards. When I find ones which don't quite fit my criteria, I'll post them here. Someone was kind enough to post seats they found in VA and I was able to get them, so I'm trying to return the favor.

Essington Avenue Used Auto Parts in Philly has a 1998 S70 with great interior including very nice heated manual front seats. Its interior color code is 3980 which is oak, confirmed at my local Volvo dealership using the VIN. The car is stock # AA7827. Seats are $125 each. They're not a self-service yard so you must have them pull the seats. They were in stock 6/22/23 when I called and they sent me the attached pictures. If you need seats with the special up-to-1998 airbag triggers, get these before someone else does.

Found another nice set of 1998 manual heated seats at J.C. Recycling in Meriden, CT. They're on a wrecked blue or black S70, stock # 11904. May have just appeared recently because I didn't see them in previous searches.

I don't care about the seats, I want that console. If only I still worked in Bucks.

Do you mean the part between the seats with the emergency brake lever? I've seen plenty of good ones in (fake) wood grain and black. They're easy to remove, but if the junkyard insists on doing the removal, you have to hope they're careful and don't break it.

I can never find good consoles in the junkyard. They are always busted up and trashed. But then again all the V70s I see now in the yard are completely trashed on the outside too. I think all the nice P80s left won't see a salvage yard unless they are completely totaled inside and out.

I found another decent pair of front seats at a junkyard near me. However, the doors of the car had been removed, allowing in all the rain we've had. They look fine, just a bit cracked. I would probably get them if they were 1998 which I need, but they're 2000 so would require swapping skins. Too much work for wet seats in 65% good condition.

Convince me to drive 2 hours and 30 mins round trip to get these cracked seats soaked by rain from having no doors and I'll grab the glovebox trim. Water damaged electronics, moldy foam, plasticized sunburned leather? A big risk.

They're just not good enough for my T5M and would require deskin/reskin since they're 2000, not 1998. A lot of work for a 65% seat. I could merge the driver's back and passenger's bottom for better results but then I'd have to buy both. Geronimo and the G70 could use them for heat/power but their quality is only marginally better.

I really don't want to deskin and steal the back foam from my 95% perfect 2000 seats, though I have no car worthy of receiving them. Saving them for a 1999 T5M...

Let me know location , this might be worth the trip for me if it’s South vs North….I could harvest that console and seats and take the risk on the leather. Is there a price sheet for the yard ?
