Fixing hole in oil pan.

A rock hit the bottom of the oil pan and made an indent with a hole a little less than a square cm so that oil leaks out. Right now there is a screw threaded in that hole with some washers rubber gaskets and rtv. So far it has lasted about a year, but I don't want a catastrophic engine failure if it fails. Im going to try to take off the oil pan take the old screw out and put a bolt through the hole and a nut on the other side so it doesn't fall out. I'll also use washers and rubber gaskets. Is this a good idea, or do I need a new oil pan?

While I have the oil pan out, is there anything that should be replaced for preventative maintenance? Any new gaskets I would need?
Also, when I reseal the oil pan, do I use rtv, or anaerobic sealant like the upper portion of the head?

Look for metal shavings inside the pain and on the pump filter. Or any other kind such as pieces of the red sealant.

With the pan dropped, unless you have the experience and tools, not really much you can do. There's conrod bearings you could inspect for scoring/pitting, but then you'd need new cap bolts and thus driving the cost higher.

How do I know if it will work with the oil cooler that I think only turbos have? Are all the pans the same?

You’d have to verify part numbers. Just was pointing out there are some on eBay if you wanted a second hand one (or new aftermarket).

As for repairs I would weld vs other options. Having cleaned mine after new oil pickup seals I would be a certain to get any debris out of all the baffles, lots of nooks and crannies.

I got a used oil pan off of eBay. It looks like this and smells bad. It almost looks as if there is moss/lichen growing on it. What is it? Does it indicate any problems? The oil pan on the car now is pretty clean, and a little oily.

If not as represented in the eBay ad I would definitely contact the seller. If a salvage yard they may send a new one.

That said, if sitting in the weeds for years it is likely moss, mildew or mold. Should clean up easily with a strong detergent solution. Main thing is that the surface mating to block and transmission is flat/ straight and the inside is completely clean.
