Help, Advice, Owners' Discussion and DIY Tutorials devoted to the second generation C70, S40 and V50 Volvos -- awkwardly model year 2004 ½ onwards -- plus where to go for advice and discussion on Volvo's sporty C30 Coupe powered by Volvo's ubiquitous inline 5-cylinder power plant.
Hello, my C30 's A/C was working well but in the past couple of days (since it has been over 100F) it has blown cold air then the fan keeps blowing but it isn't cold. Then I turn off the A/C for about 5 minutes and turn it back on and it blows cold again.
Any ideas? Does this mean I need to do an A/C refrigerant charge? Anyone remember what type I'm supposed to use? The local store sells it unless they have gotten rid of that summer stuff

Same happening on my 07 S40. Took it to a local Volvo shop and they shrugged their shoulders and said, just shut it off for a few mins and turn it on later. We've been doing this for the past two years. It's a Volvo so it probably need a completely new A/C system... and have you see what it takes to replace these heater cores???
Yikes! Yeah, I was thinking about cleaning the cabin air temperature sensor. That part is less than $50 but it could just be dirty. I'm going to start with that then see if it helps. It's the little sensore behind the waterfall that has a like 3 or for lines cut out of it in the dash.
I remember it was dirty once before and I just vacuumed it but didn't know what it was.
That works.

The issue is likely your AC compressor clutch gap. Easy to diagnose and short term fix with some zip ties to effectively shim the gap a bit tighter. Easy to do on P1 chassis cars as the compressor can be accessed by pulling front right wheel.
