air in power steering fluid 1990 Volvo 240

Post by JackN »

I have a 1990 240 with a power steering problem. Fluid bubbles when the car starts and bubbles for a while but will eventually stop. I have put a vacuum on the fluid reservoir and it will not hold a vacuum, I assume that there is air being sucked in somewhere. I cannot find an apparent leak, once the car is warmed up and running it seems fine, with no steering problem, where do I go from here? Thanks for any advice you can give me. JackN

Have you tried flushing the system and perhaps use synthetic? If you think air is getting in perhaps add some ATP AT205 with the flush for the seals.

OK, ready to try anything before replacing expensive and labor-intensive parts. Any idea as to how long it would take to purge air other than turning wheels?
