Hello everyone,
I currently have my car up on jack stands and am looking to replace my U-joint but am not sure if I should take this in to a mechanic? I have the tools (basically) and am ready to go just not confident that I know what I’m doing. Also, should the center bearing have any “play”? Looking for tips and advice. Thanks

Do you mean the middle U-joint by the support bearing? Is it not staked in place? These will be a challenge to remove and refit.
Has the u-j got sloppy? It is not common, normally the front joint at the angle gear end is the issue due to the heat of cat nearby. The carrier/support bearing is often an issue due the the rubber portion failing around the bearing. To replace this requires splitting the propshaft. I am not sure many have done this successfully. Some replace the shaft with an aftermarket unit (not heard anything about those and success rates), or send them to a specialist shop for repair like Colorado Driveshaft.
If you plan to tackle this, you can run the car without the propshaft as a FWD car so you still have wheels.
While not entirely on topic, this may be helpful reading:

U joints are not serviceable on these driveshafts - you have to replace the whole thing with a rebuilt shaft or get your shaft rebuilt and re-balanced.
