S60 2011 D3 replaced Cylinder head, Crankshaft few times, drains battery immediately

Post by Shuxuanma1 »

Hi There
I had my Cylinder head replaced due to the fan belt snapping, going into Cam section and breaking the head. The head broke at all the holders where the hydraulic lifters seat into. 14 broke and 2 valves bent. Had to purchase a second hand head from the scrap yard. Took it for pressure testing, all tested fine. Got engineering to clean and polish.

While the head was out, removed the EGR and cleaned it. Took the Alternator out and changed the PULLEY only and put back. Got the Injectors cleaned as well.

After we reinstalled the head, put everything back, we tried starting the car. It cranks a few times but drains the battery almost immediately. If we charge the battery to full, it will crank for about 10 times max and battery is not enough. The battery does not completely die. If we put the same battery in another car to charge, it starts normal so it does not seem that the battery is only the problem.

We checked the Cam timing settings at least 4 times, and the mechanic helping me confirms it is all correct. We went through the entire rebuild and made sure every bolt, nut and connector was put back as it came out.

Can someone please assist to help us figure out what it could be that us causing it not to crank long enough. Your kind assistance is really appreciated

Hi There. Just checking if the forum still works. It's been a week and only 1 person responded. Is there anyone that had experience with this issue that can kindly assist.

Try to use a voltmeter to check the voltage drop along the positive cable from battery to the engine with key in run position. This may indicate a large current draw from some short in the wiring. Large current draw would drain battery quickly.
Have you checked for fuel pressure at the fuel rail? It will not start without proper fuel pressure. Something may not have been reconnected.
Have you checked for spark at the spark plugs? Again, something may not have been reconnected after the rebuild.

Hi There. I charged the battery with a battery charger and it seems to hold much longer charge. I checked the fuel pressure, all good, bled the fuel rails to the injector, all good. Fuel definitely getting to the Injectors. This is diesel to no spark plugs. Tested glow plugs, they seem all fine. Also did a compression test and that passed as well. One mechanic suggested to recheck the hydraulic lifters, he said the lifters should have put back with full pressure. Also the suggestion was to get the Injectors tested or cleaned. I also checked the Crank sensor, all good there.

Any further assistance with be appreciated.
