V70R alarm question

Post by Redbox »

Well, I have the typical alarm situation (04 V70R). I removed the alarm module and cut it open to find battery juice on the circuit board and the battery wires corroded off. I cleaned up the board, and can't see any of the traces burned through, but I don't trust that adding a new battery will revive it. I have no need for an alarm, and at this point would just like to button up the fender liner and move on.

So, my question(s) would be, am I just as well off to just leave the whole thing out, or is there any benefit to reinstalling the module and plugging it in (with no battery in it)?

From what I've read, I will see the message about the alarm whenever I start the car, and my sunroof won't work?

Any fuse I should pull?

Any other issues from deleting it?

Thanks for any advice.

The batteries are cheap and not difficult to replace. Don't toss and just repair and put it back just for the sake of having the car at Stage 0 for the alarm.

I just bought another Volvo with the same issue, Alarm warning at startup and the sunroof did not work. The previous owner lived with it without complaints, but I went ahead and had the module replaced. Now the alarm works and the sunroof too.

On my 2002 V70 XC I do not get the alarm warning but the sunroof doesn't work either. Motivating me to have a look. The board on the 03 S80 T6 was a little burnt so the new battery I installed on the old board worked intermittently and sorta didn't after awhile.

Many years ago, I went up to NYC and parked along Broadway for an event. My 01 V70 t5m started beeping and flashing soon after I parked it. Note, this was not the first time the car's alarm acted up. I unlocked it and relocked it and it stopped acting up. But the rest of the day, I was worried about what the car was doing.
From that point on, I replace the modules in my Volvo's at the first sign of trouble.

I unplugged mine, sunroof works and I only get a mssg if I lock the car with the fob.
Seeing as we rarely lock the car its not worth fixing.

Well, I just unplugged mine and tossed it in the garage. So far no message (there was before I took it out), and the sunroof works now. Mysterious.

theres no mystery, experience tells you if you unplug the alarm but leave the fuse in place you get a warning mssg about the alarm when using the fob to lock the doors, but the sunroof works.
