RHF axle support bearing source? - 02 XC70

Post by scot850 »

Tried looking this part up on Volvo websites and cannot find a part number for this. Anyone have a source for the RHF axle support bearing?

Other option is to try to find a good used axle. That should be a laugh!!

Once you use the angle grinder to cut slowly into the INNER race, when you are almost 95% through, use a chisel and gently hammer the groove, it will split.

Now use the old INNER race as an installation tool and ONLY on the inner race of the new bearing.

Search for reputable names such as Koyo, INA etc.

Thanks for the help on this. Removing the bearing and installing a new one I've done before.

I am having issues finding any named brand bearings for the car. There seems to be contradictions on what bearing fits. I believed I had identified 2 parts numbers (1 is a supersession). Volvo part # 9181693 and 3502019

However on Volvo parts sites they don't show that fitting P2 XC70's. There are places in Europe that have different bearings supposed to fit P2 axles, but brans I have never heard of. Even in those cases most don't ship to Canada/US.

Known brand.

Also, there are many high-quality bearings available in this standard metric size; 45mm ID X 75mm OD X 16mm W. With the width being 3mm smaller it could work with the Volvo axle but a spacer would likely be needed.

I'd avoid Febest brand.

Everything you need is in the thread below.
Search MAPCO 77600 (likely made in Germany)

From the part number on that thread, it ties up with the part number I listed above (9181693). FCP Euro list the bearing but again no P2 is listed. It lists P80's and P3 cars and several others, but no P2 cars. I have e-mailed them for clarification.

Interesting, there is a picture of another brand of bearing on that thread by a brand called MAPCO. I have seen that bearing for sale in the UK for about $8!! Only issue they don't ship to Canada. With the probable Post strike looming for the end of the week here, post is not currently a good plan. Need it to be shipped with someone else. Hopefully the Febi Bilstien one at FCP will work.

Thanks guys! Once I get a resolution I will update.

So I contacted FCP Euro tech department, and their reply is below:

Thanks for contacting FCP Euro!

This bearing is not compatible to either of your XC70s; the carrier bearing on the half-shaft on the XC70 models is only sold together with a replacement axle.

So they seem to think the bearing is not replaceable. Not having had a P2 axle off to look at it, I don't know if the bearing can be removed. It would seem weird when bearings are sold like in the UK which are listed for it? And why (other than Ford influence) would it not be replaceable like on P80's and P3 models?

- FCP is not going to know the answer bc this is a very specialized topic.

- Everything you need is in that link I sent above.
I guess you can order the bearing and report back how it works.

PS: if there is no bearing play, you may want to remove the seal and squeeze some grease in there. Then reinstalled the seal.
