More screw location identifying needed 1997 850 AWD dashboard and center console

Post by scot850 »

So, I have been trying to find time to repair my buddies dashboard mounts, and then found so many other broken mounts and parts of the dashboard, it has taken way longer than I had hoped due to other commitments.

Anyways, I am just about ready to start the re-installation of the lower dash section. While tidying up the floor area for access I found 4 screws that I can't place where they go. For a V/S70 P80 I know what screws go where from memory. But an 850 is different and in this case I am not sure someone has not been in there before as some of the screws are for sure in the wrong places and wrong types.

Now, I am pretty confident I have identified the screws for the dashboard, but I'm thinking these may be to do with the center console perhaps?

2 may be for the bottom of the dashboard where it mounts to the metal frame in the middle which is part of the center console support also.
But then the other 2 I have no idea. Any helps will we much appreciated, especially anyone that may have had the console or dash out recently.

The screws are about 20-25mm long and have a T25 head as seen above.

There are similar screws used for the turn signal and washwipe levers on the steering column as well as the 2 lower mounts for the dashboard lower mounts to the "A" pillar by the front doors. However, those do not normally have washers on them and as I have brand new ones, they do not come with a washer included. Those are like the one below:

I'm fairly confident that 2 may be for the center lower mount of the dashboard to the metal center frame which mounts to the floor:

A close up of the 2 screw holes is below:

You can see the 2 holes, one either end of the flat section. I thought the other 2 may be for the center console screws into the floor under the tray where the wiring harness connectors are, but they take the self threading style of T25 screw.

So, any help appreciated!

Have a Happy Festive season for all those have time off this time of year!

This won't be much help, but given the stout shank, course thread with thread lock, heavy washer and head meant for torquing, I'm thinking they must be used in a hefty steel-steel mount of some sort, like something involving the seat frame. Is there a steel structural member supporting the dash? Maybe the console?

Nope, but they do carry a fair load for an M6/7 threaded screw.

So the answer came from getting smarter and checking the R sitting in the garage. I've come across this several times where Volvo lists a screw or bolt but do not include the attached washer in the pictures. The 'R' had these bolts on the 2 outer 'legs on the 'A' pillar and the other 2 went where I thought in the center section of the dash. Fortunately all the 4 mounting bolts fitted so finally progress!
