Intermitant Brake Light and Fuel Gauge Failure while DTSC engaged 2004 Volvo V70 2.5T AWD

Post by VolvoFaucho »

Hey everyone,
First time posting here. Been following for a while but never got around to making an account. Thought that now I'm starting to face weird issues with my trusty old V70 that I would reach out to everyone for some ideas and expert volvo advice!

I have been fighting an weird gremlin type issue the past week with my 2004 V70 2.5T AWD (318000kms).
Here's my problem:

I live in Canada where the temperature the past week has been consistent snow, flurries and an average temp of -12C. I would turn on my car and let it warm up for about 5mins. The real issue starts when I'm driving. Sometimes when the anti-skid activates, whether I am sliding through turns or just regular wheel spin after a stop, my fuel gauge drops to empty and I lose my brake lights. The rear lower running lights, turn signals, and reverse lights still work, but my top brake lights and third brake light in the spoiler don't work.
I have already checked all my fuses, the brake light shunts and relays. This issue is intermittent and comes and goes. No error codes on the dash. In my 2004 model, I do not have the button to disable the DTSC on my center console (unfortunately). Everything will return to normal after a couple minutes of driving. Any Ideas anyone? Thanks for all the help!

First thought - bad ground connection

Sounds like the ABS Pump kicks in, its ground or any ground near is in bad condition and pulls voltage down so gauge or else stops working.

Thanks for the suggestion!!. I checked my grounds and all is good. After doing even more digging I've come across a lot of info regarding the possibility of REM failure. Mainly the shunts and fuses. It's the next thing to check. Keep you posted!
