2020 S60 seat belt/new owner maintenance

Post by soulvoid21 »

Recently purchased a 2020 S60 T6 AWD with 44k miles. Stunning car and a crazy upgrade from my 07 S60 or even 14 XC90. I've driven a lot of rentals for work but nothing has driven has comfortably. Car has been well maintained and had most regular maintenance records. Even has a fresh set of Pirelli's.

Only problem I've found is the drivers seat belt will not retract properly on it's own. I have to pull it out quite far, and work it back into the car while it slowly retracts in. When I pull it all the way out, it retracts quickly as you'd expect until it hits the "heavily used" point, where it slows to almost a complete stop. If I pull on it repeatedly it will retract fully on it's own. I assume there's something sticky or binding up in the tensioner. It's not catching on anything externally that I can see, though the seat belt is fairly dirty from the PO and it's the "Blonde" interior, so the belt is obviously dirty.

I planned to take the panels off once it warms up to see if I can spot anything obvious, but is changing this seat belt tensioner something that can be DIY'ed? Would obviously disconnect the battery so SRS doesn't get triggered, but want to verify if it will cause any issues without proper scan tools. I might change it regardless just from how dirty it is, as I know you shouldn't clean seatbelts too thoroughly.

What about maintenance. Anything specific I should be doing? I do drive my vehicles pretty hard, so keep that in mind when considering what to suggest. I've read about the supercharger oil/service (or lack of) but have gotten a lot of varying information about that. Trans fluid I will have my indie shop change at 50k miles, and probably do every 20-30k intervals. What about the Haldex/pump or diff fluids? I use mostly Volvo parts purchased through FCP, and have always used Castrol in all my Volvos. I normally only drive about 4-5k miles per year, sometimes less.

P.S. Hopefully this is the right category to use! I didn't see anything specific to the SPA platform.

There was a recall having to do with the seat belt anchorage, of which our 2018 S60 was included. Your 2020 may have been included. If so, maybe they goofed something up when performing the “upgrade”??? A dealer could tell you if your VIN was included in the recall and if it was actually done. In our case the dealer tech didn’t get the passengers side panel properly reattached on the first visit. In addition they somehow managed to sever the electric lumbar power wire while they were in there. Nice car but horrible dealer support.

My model did not have any recalls.

However I did order the seat belt from a parts vendor where they confirmed it must be programmed by the dealer after install.. I may see if I can just clean it first as the part is already $600, I'm sure they'll charge me the standard $185 for diag and then labor..

Going to check with my indy shop to see what he has access to. If he can program it for me, I know he'd do it for free. He has a top end snap on setup. Does anyone happen to have the procedure?
