Water leak 2006 XC70 140k?

Post by AlanS »

Long post: 2006 XC70 140k. I found the expansion tank very low. Looked under car (shield removed) to find green fluid around the subframe on the pass. side. Figuring it's 'time', I had my mechanic change my belts, tensioner and water pump. Problem did not go away. We both scoured the engine looking for the leak....NOTHING!. The only thing I can find (and it's minimal) is a drop hanging from the lower crank pulley. Engine is dry, hoses are dry...expansion tank seems intact. WHERE THE HECK IS THE WATER COMING FROM? It was dry fro a long trip I took (300 miles), but then the next morning, there was a puddle under the car...same spot. Any clues where to continue my search?

radiator, mechanic should have diagnosed before throwing parts.
I wouldn't change the rad until its confirmed with a pressure tester.
Or a dye and test light with magic viewing glasses.
When you look under the hood you don't see the the rad, closest to the engine is the intercooler.

Check the small hose feeding the thermostat housing.
I wrote some tricks for that hose (using genetic heater hose) in this forum.
You will need 7-mm wrench.
