I am writing this for a friend as I don't think he has registered yet. He has a 2013 S60 with a little over 100k miles on her. He only recently discovered that there is no dipstick on this model/year for the ATF. When he went to his mechanic or the dealer, not sure which one, they told him that he better not change the fluid especially with a flush machine as it may cause further damage. I personally have an older 2002 V70 that allows me to drain and fill but in his situation what can he do? I am guessing he can drop the pan and drain what comes out but how does he re-fill?
Thanks much!

Which engine/transmission?
Lifetime fluid is crazy, unless you sell transmissions. Whatever the process it should be changed. Agree a low pressure drain and fill or cooler return flush is best.
Back when I had my first Volvo for my kids, a 05 S40, the seller told me “it is a sealed unit with lifetime fluid” when asked when it was last changed. He clearly didn’t look for and find the dipstick.

If your friend’s 2013 is like our 2018 then he is correct - there is no dipstick. The fluid level is set by opening a stand tube that is in the center of the drain plug while it is idling in park (warm engine).
In order to expose the fill port I had to move the air filter box out of the way. Don’t start the engine without the intake air sensor plugged in or you’ll likely throw a fault code.
(Edit) I was disappointed to find that now the trans cooler is nothing more than a large tuna can sized component that is mounted directly to the front of the trans. There are no hoses running to and from the trans that you can break into to flush in a more efficient manner.
Check out YouTube - I found videos there that cover the procedure.
