S80 D5 2006 crank does not start

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 D5 2006 crank does not start

Post by Mocodz »

Hello !
I bought a 2006 S80 for my dauther
She just got her licence, and since I've already had two S80s and an XC70, she loves this model.
Everything was fine, we had the service and timing belt done, but one day she stopped to do some shopping and the car wouldn't start again.
As she doesn't live nearby, she sent it to a garage, which changed the pump in the tank and the car started again, until the next morning. The same mechanic took it back and replaced the pump again. It worked for a few hours and then broke down again. He therefore assumed that the ECM must be faulty and was causing premature wear on the pump. He sent the computers to a specialist who said that the computer was working properly. He still offered to replace the computer just in case, so I told him not to touch it and I took the car back.
The first thing I did was to put the calculators back in, and I realised that he had taken them out without disconnecting the battery, which was by then completely flat...
I then ordered a used pump from a well-known website, which came from an accident-damaged XC90. I tested both pumps outside the tank in a basin of diesel fuel, and both had the same flow rate with a pressure that seemed close to 300 kPa (opening of the pressure relief valve).

I put the pump back in the tank. I used a bulb to make sure that the 12V was working properly with the correct current.
I activated the pump by turning the key to position II.
The power supply lasted 80 seconds (pump noise and relay click at the end of 80 seconds) and the pump delivered approximately 500ml.
I changed the diesel filter, made sure there were no leaks, disconnected the filter outlet and repeated the test. I collected 500 ml of diesel.
Finally, I disconnected the diesel inlet hose on the pump (where I found a small air intake) and retested for 80 seconds, again collecting around 500 ml.

From all this, I think we can conclude that the section between the tank and the high-pressure pump is working properly, so I conclude that the problem does not come from this section. Does anyone have another point of view or suggestion for a test to do?

For the HP part, I changed the fuel pressure control valve because I found that it crackled when the ignition was turned off... but the engine won't start.
As for the faults, I used a Mongoose cable and on VIDA I got the codes ECM 2311 (injector 1 faulty signal) ECM 2312 (injector 2 faulty signal) ECM 2313 (injector 3 faulty signal) ECM 2314 (injector 4 faulty signal) ECM 2315 (injector 5 faulty signal)
I reset these faults,
I disconnected the battery, disconnected the ECUs, checked the connection with the 5 injectors pin by pin, as well as the camshaft sensor, and everything is OK.
And the car still won't start.
I just changed the camshaft sensor and the car still won't start.

The pressure in the rail is between 100,000 and 600,000 Hpa, i.e. 10 to 60 MPA at the starter motor: over a 10-second sequence, I start at 10 MPa, reach 60 in 4 seconds, then it drops back down to 30 MPa.
Of course, if I spray brake cleaner into the intake, it starts and stalls as soon as I stop.
I measured the injectors, but with the digital tool, it only displays 0.1 ohms, so it's impossible to know if they're really in good condition, but they all have the same value and I'd be really unlucky if all 5 were faulty... And the car just won't start, it never made any strange noises or stalled!!!
Now I have the error codes ECM-2315, ECM-2314, then ECM 2312 and 2311 again.
I did a leak test on the injectors and No. 3 was leaking the most... I blocked the pipe and tried to start it with 4 injectors, but the car wouldn't start...
I double-checked the wiring and everything seems to be in order...
Does anyone know if I can try a used ECM from the same engine without reprogramming it?
