alarm horn

Post by drew525 »

So today by accident I realized the horn for the alarm on my 850 turbo doesn't work. Someone accidentally set off the alarm and all that happened was the lights flashed. This isn't an issue I'm extremely concerned about as the regular horn on my 850 does work, I was just wondering if anybody knew if it was common for the alarm horns to go bad or if it's just a loose connection.

These horns aren't so good...mine is very faint. If you look under the hood, right in the center under the windshield cowl, you'll see a round device...this is your horn. There's a screw in the middle of it that gets loose. Tighten it up and see if this restores your horn's sound. if not, then check the wiring to it. There are other alternatives out there...you can check on www.ipdusa.com for instance for some new horns which are much louder to begin with.

Is there supposed to be any sort of indicator sound or chirp when arming the alarm? I just get a light flash. My last car responded with a 'beep'. Just curious. :)

In the center of your firewall you will find a horn. Chances are the center nut on that horn has come loose and no longer makes good electrical contact.

You might want to leave it that way since just the flashing lights will run the battery down much slower than the lights and the horn.
