2000 S40 - Warning light issues - help if possible

Post by mm04 »

Hi everyone,

New to the forum. Looks like the community is active, so I decided to jump in.

I have a 2000 S40 with 134k miles on it. The car really has been good to me over the years, but warning lights have always driven me crazy. My latest one is the ABS light. I had new wheels put on my car and had my fenders rolled. After I got my car back, the ABS light was on. I've had this actually happen at the dealership as well after a service and all they did was reset it and it never came back on. I don't know if the banging on the fender caused something to jar loose or the sensor didn't like it or what.

On top of that, I just had my airflow sensor replaced because it was causing a check engine light error. 4 days later, the check engine light turned back on (it has been doing this on and off for quite some time). Also, the check engine light never turns on when I'm on long trips or on the freeway or anything. I've only seen it come on when I was moving downhill while not accellerating. Then it would turn on and then after a day or two, turn off. The last two times the check engine light turned on (over a 7 day period), it made a few more warning lights turn on for a split second at the same time - the yellow arrow and the battery light. I'm really afraid something is wrong with the computer and that may need to be replaced. I've heard that is quite expensive.

I do plan on taking in to a local european car mechanic to check the codes, but I'm interested to hear if any of you have any idea as to what's going on. I'm uneasy that I just had the sensor replaced for $300 and now the light is back on again. It makes me wonder if there truly was an issue at all. Ever since the recall a few years back where Volvo supposedly found the problem causing check engine lights turning on, I've been suspicious.

Anyway, thanks in advance!

Mike
