One day car would not start. Had plugs, wires, cap, rotor installed. Car then ran but mileage was down around 15 mpg from 24 mpg. Car occasionally would just stop running at idle. Took car to volvo dealer (50 miles away). Replaced timing belt (it was due, not defective), ran diagnostics - found faulty crank sensor (replaced that) and cam position sensor which was not in stock so not replaced. Milage has improved, but car still stops every once in a while at idle, it idles rough. I get no check engine light. Dealer wanted to replace all tune up parts even though they are Napa gold with lifetime guarantee ( I declined ). Could cam sensor cause this issue or should I look elsewhere - dealer seems to be shotgunning problem and that is expensive.

Did the dealer pull any codes? Not all codes will set off lights.

There was no codes found. They told me the Crank Sensor and Cam Sensor's were "flaky" and they detected errors on the tune up components. In other words they were not able to find anything wrong except they wanted to charge me to replace all my brand new tune up parts!

I ended up having a local mechanic replace the CMP sensor and the newly installed rotor and distributor cap - evidently the tolerances were out of whack causing this problem. Runs fine now.
