First Hello. My first posting here.
I just purchased an S60 AWD last night. I hope it will work well. A couple questions if I may.
1) Do they come with synthetic oil?
2) How much oil do they hold?
3) Do any of you think this car has excessive wind noise.
I did not really test drive it that far. I went less than 5 miles but I did notice a fair bit of wind noise. This really surprized me. The sales rep said it is a common comment? WTF???
My wife has an MB 240 C 2.6 and that car is vault quiet and a less expensive vehicle.
Any comments are much appreciated. Many thanks.

Well I took the car out for about a 20KM drive tonight and above 110 KPH the wind whistle seems to be coming from the frame part that holds the windshield in place. ("A pillar" I think).
Do any of you have this problem? It does not seem to be coming from the sunroof area or the driver side mirror.
I checked the moulding around the windshield and there are no pieces sticking out at all.
This is going to drive me crazy. I guess I can always crank the radio if need be.

What I'm reading from your posts is "This car might not be the car for me."
If the wind issue is going to bug you, perhaps you should contact the dealer asap and, at the very least, drive another S60 to see if it's inherent on that model or if yours is a bad sample. If it's part of the design, get a different car. We spend too much time in and too much money on cars to live with something that bothers us.

The interesting thing is how I came about this car. My father in law is a retired Ford employee. They have that Z plan available to them. For the past 18 years he has been trying to get my wife and I to take advantage of it and our answer was always we did not want a Ford (or any domestic car for that matter) at any price.
We he heard I was getting a new car 2 weeks ago he once again was all hopped up about me taking advantage of the program. My response was NO!!!
He then mentioned he could get Jaguar, Mazda and Volvo now. I said a Volvo would be OK.
I went to the dealer and they suggested an AWD S60. I only drove it around the block. It seemed Ok so I bought it. I was in and out of the dealership in less than an hour.
When I first took this car on the hwy. it shocked me how much wind whistling came off it.
The dealer has been great and are going to replace some windshield moulding or something.
I was just surprized that a car of this reputation has this flaw. The service rep. said thats the way they are.
Oh well, buyer beware I guess. Other that that it is a good car.

I was reading your comments about your new S60 with interest. i'm also considering purchase of same new model in next 2 months...would be interested in knowing how wind noise works out. Also is there any good place to go for safety stats and rankings for Volvo? Safety is #1 for me.
Thanks,
Marty

If you are like me, you may be very consious of wind noise. I have ridden in a rental S60 T5 over the course of several days. My impression was that it had quite a bit of wind noise and the ride was too stiff for my taste. However, the car was so comfortable to ride in and nice to look at that I wasn't sure I would be able to pass it up if I were considering buying one.
I will say my S70 has very little wind noise, so I think the wind noise is inherent to the S60. Other than that, what a nice car!

You guys makes it seem so easy, just go to the dealer, test the car and buy it, in Norway an s60 AWD cost over 60 000 us dollars! That is the STANDARD edition. Thanks to our "government", who doesn't like it if your car has over 70hp.
I know this was very off topic, but just had to let out some steam. S60 will always be the car of my dreams.

Hello,
I'm surprised that you find the S60 noisy. If you have the standard S60 version it might not include the laminated windows, in that case you would have to order them when you order the car. IF you would have these windows the noise form the wind and road would decrease. My parents have an S60 T5 without laminated windows, I my self drive a S60 D5 and there is a big difference between the two cars when it comes to wind and road noise inside the car.
I also know that VOLVO made a lot of changes to improve the NV (Noise and Vibration).
Regarding the oil in your car, it should be synthetic oil. Generally all new cars and engines have synthetic oil.
The amount of oil in your engine should be specified in the owners manual, look for the service chapter.
