2002 s60 AWD. New turbo problems questions

Post by Unclejus1215 »

I just buy a 2002 Volvo S 60 all-wheel-drive with a bad turbo. I purchased a new turbo charger for it and replaced it as well as the entire exhaust system. I had a few problems when putting on the coolant lines for the new turbo charger. On the old turbo they were both located on the same side,The new turbo they are located on different sides. I do not know if there is a specific direction of flow in coolant through the turbocharger. This is where my question starts. Does anyone know if there is a specific direction and flow of coolant through the turbocharger?? If so which way, is it possible I crossed the coolant lines? I started the car and let it run for about two minutes, noticing that hot side of the turbo was smoking I shut the car off. I'm not sure if it is getting too hot,or if it's simply a new part in that is why it is smoking, or possibly the new gasket for the new downpipe. I do not want to blow up a brand-new turbo. Can someone please help me with this thank you!!

There is a routing but it is of little consequence as the water pump will push it when running and when engine off the heat will still create thermosiphon and move water through turbo.
The smoke is the oil on the housing put there to keep it from rusting in packaging.
The water lines only cool the center bearing housing.

I did touch he turbo housing, after a very short time running, it was quite hot already. How hot do these turbochargers get?
