1988 Volvo 760 turbo. missing e-brake adjusters and sliders

Post by rmcmighty »

The 1988 Volvo 760 Turbo I just purchaced has had the emergency brake cables disconnected and all parts inside the disc/drum assembly is missing . I have already purchaced a new hardware kit and brake shoes ,brake cable and have been told that it would be much cheaper to get the remainikng parts like the slides and adjusters ect. from a wrecker and could take them from a 240 and that would work too .... is this right ? please HELP M E !
Thanks folks

although the majority of the parts are the same.. like the adjuster and some of the other springs.. there are others which are unique to each model. Also chances are the smaller parts will be really rusty and defective. I would suggest you can get the majority of parts relatively cheap from an aftermarket specialist.

Besides for your time and trouble looking for used brake parts make not make either monetary or safety sense in the long run. I would think the most expensive part is the adjuster and that used one is easily retrieved from any 240 or 740.. part number 677525 and the sleeve which is number 677528.

the short and long springs hold the e-brake shoes together 2 for each side.

I suggest you pick up a haynes manual or go to the local library and ask for mitchels or any other book which can help if the above diagrams dont help.

I went to the Wrecker yesterday to retrieve the adjusters and made the mistake of pulling them from a 1987 740 ... They are different I guess i must stick with model year 1988 or newer on these ! I pulled apart the driverside and found brake shoes ect in tact so i am only missind the adjuster ect. for the right side !
