Can I rebuild I rebuild my turbo charger, or do I need to. The problem is that my car exhaust is very smoky. I know the turbo is burning oil into my intake. This I know for. Can any one help me with information to fix this problem cheaply.
The most common reason for a turbo "leaking" oil into the intake is a dirty air filter. The turbo will create a substantial suction, if the air filter is restrictive this suction will accelerate oil leakage past the seals, often just replacing the air filter will greatly reduce oil consumption.
If the internal seals are damaged or leaking you can get a kit that includes the parts needed to rebuild the turbo yourself. But be cautioned that a turbo is one of the most precise components in your car, at full boost they turn at 80,000 - 100,000 rpm which means that assembly and balance are critical, one little mistake and the life of the turbo will be reduced significantly.
Considering the cost of a rebuilt turbo and the price and work in rebuilding it yourself it may be an advantage to buy a rebuilt turbo and just do the R&R yourself
