1996 intake manifold

Post by wooded »

I tried to do the replacement for my crankcase ventilation tank. I removed all hoses, rigid turbo ic tube, throttle body, hoses, air box, round silver thing etc. I got to a stop, do I need to remove the fuel rail before removing the 8 bolts for the intake manfold located on the front of the engine? i know you need to remove the dip stick from below first, but I cant find a good picture identifying the intake manifold and disassembly.

If you do a search here you'll find it. but yeah, you'll have to remove the fuel rail, or specifically, when you do that you'll pull out the fuel injectors. Others have said there's a short cut to this, but I haven't found it....you'll have to pull the fuel rail and out come the injectors with it...wiggle and pull to get them out...and don't lose the 0-rings that hold it up against the fuel rail.

No need to remove the fuel rail..... just release fuel pressure using the Schrader valve on the passenger end of the fuel rail and then disconnect the fuel line by loosening its retaining/ expansion nut. Pull the plugs on all injectors. Move the manifold with fuel rail up and out of the way once you have the top intake bolts removed and and the bottom ones only loosened.
Do not remove injectors unless you are planning on replacing the injector seals...if not..don't disturb them.
With the right length socket extention with a swivel joint you should have no problems. If I remember correctly I had to us a open ended wrench on one manifold bolt to the far right that was blocked enough that I could not get the socket on it

Hope that helps!

There is no need to remove the fuel rail, just uncouple the fuel line and lift the manifold out of the way.

There is a bracket below the intake manifold that you will have to remove. After taking out the bolt for the dip stick, feel under the manifold for another bolt about an inch away. Take that one out.
When putting things back, just hand tighten the bottom bolt of the bracket. After putting the top bolt back in the manifold bracket, then tighten the bottom bolt.
I have a pictorial that I can email you.
