so basically i changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap+rotor on my 1986 volvo 240 DL wagon.
so after all that is changed i go to start the car which it starts perfectly fine ''sounds'' better then before! i go to give it a bit of gas and it wants to stall then gets rough for a little bit then goes back to normal but keep in mind im still in park, theres are also some small back fires not loud just like a small''Poof''
im thinking maybe another vaccum leak ...because prior to this tune up there was a leak from the hose in front of the brake booster which made it run really rough which is now fixed of course. or the gapping of the spark plugs ?!
thanks in advance

could it be the fuel filter?
idle adjustment got touched while under the hood ?
gapping of the spark plus 0.028?

You should check the fuel pressure, but I wouldn't replace the fuel filter for this problem, but it's good to replace at the normal maintenance interval or if the fuel pumps are replaced.
It sounds like a vacuum leak, fuel pressure problem, or a bad MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor).
Make sure the connection at the MAF is ok. The terminals get corroded and spread apart and can be a problem. Also make sure the air cleaner thermostat is not stuck open, possible burning out the MAF.
It's unlikely the idle setting, but the throttle body needs to be set up correctly or you can have idle problems.

i just find it so werid that right before the tune up it was running fine! i just replaced parts and started it up and its messed up ! ah well its what we gotta live with having a 20 year+ old car
Sorry, I made the assumption that's why you replaced those parts.
It sounds like you have a misfire in the ignition system. Double check that the cap, rotor and wires are installed correctly.
If you have the wires mixed up, it could cause this. You can swap the old parts back in one at a time to see if the problem goes away.
Good Luck

at first i had the wires in the wrong sequence which was running even worse then now thats fixed. so im guessing its the rotor. ill put the old one back in and see what happens. is the same problem persists well im going to think its a vaccum leak.

i think i found the problem!
i opened up the distributor to change back the rotor and i noticed some broken plastic peces along with a small spring that were loose inside the distributor ! so im guessing this is the problem...!

i replaced the distributor and the probem still persists !! so is it the MAF? its like almost a missfire or just a rough idle ! HELPP!!!
It's hard to know what your symptom is. Misfire, rough running? There are many things that can cause either.
Can you say for sure that the problem started only after you replaced the ignition parts?
Have you checked for trouble codes?
