Engine has developed a sever oil leak down the rear of the engine block and sump mainly above the sump drain plug.
after a lot of degreasing and high speed driving the leak seems to be in th vacinity of the pipe connection to the engine block just above the sump joint ( I think ).
The pipe in question seems to come down at an angle from the Turbo housing.
Vehicle has now clocked up 135000 +
is there a breather on this engine, has the breather a flame trap?
If so can someone help in describing how this can be checked /replaced.
Performance of engne very good.
There is problem starting when warm in that engine will not fire without accelerator being depressed to the floor and sometimes several attempts are required before the engine will idle.
thank you
oil leak 1998 v40 20T auto
The leak is most likely from the pipe coming from the turbo, as you had mentioned. This is the drain for the oil from the turbo. There is a seal where the pipe enters the block. It probably needs to be replaced.
Ours was replaced (2001 V40 1.9T) under extended warranty at ~110K kms.
The starting problem can be caused by many different things...difficult to say...
