2000 s80 struts
2000 s80 struts
Has anyone ever changed the front struts on an S80? Would like to do myself but am not sure if I would need special tools.

I haven't changed the struts on my Volvo yet, but I was just working on my brakes and looked over the front suspension. It appears to be the same as in the following link. The most important tool you will need is the spring compressor - you don't want that spring flying across the room. Good luck.

I replaced the struts on my 2000 S80. As mentioned, the only special tool needed is the strut spring compressor. If you have an Autozone nearby, you can get one on their loaner program. Not too tough of a job. As an S80 owner, you will definitely need a good set of torx sockets.
I replaced mine because I had to replace the strut mount anyway; and I would recommend you consider replacing them while you have the assembly apart. They are known to be prone to failure. I replaced the strut bearing as well while I had it down, as well as adding some lowering springs.
As a do-it-yourselfer, I have found that access to a service manual is invaluable. I have been using the on-line manual service through ALLDATADIY.COM, where you can subscribe for $25 for a year for one car ($15 a year to renew). I believe the manual they provide is the same as VADIS.
Good Luck
