I have a 98 S70-T5M with about 170,000Km on it. When I bought the car at about 155,000Km in July of 07, I didn't know it had been hit. I later discovered through various checks and maintenance repairs that someone had removed the CEL bulb as well as the
SRS bulb and disconnected the passenger side airbag. Hidden CEL codes included air pump failure and gross evap leak. I just replaced my ignition switch because it would'nt turn past position 1. After this I now have the horn on continuosly so I unplugged the connectors at the horns. I suspected there was an issue with the horn before this because it would only honk when the right side of the wheel was depressed. Almost as if there was something not level underneath it. I see the horn repair kit for sale by FCP Groton fr the 850's. My question is , will this kit work to repair the issue with my S70 horn?

The problem is the same but the parts to fix it are slightly different. Here is a link to a guy that makes the kits.

I have a 1993 850 and the horn did not work at all. I called the guy at odometergears and he tried to sell me the horn kit. He couldn't answer technical questions, he just sells the kit. I Did Not buy the kit, instead I examined the horn connections inside the steering wheel. Two torx screws hold the air bag on. Don't disconnect the airbag electrical connector! Carefully set the airbag to the side. You might duct tape it so it doesn't fall.
I did not disconnect the battery or the fuse. I then cleaned the contact points with a Kleenex. With the key turned on I tested the horn and two of the four contacts now worked. I realized that a ground wire between the two contact plates was missing so I made a ground wire and got all four contacts to work.
A horn kit would have been a waste of money and it wouldn't have included the missing ground wire.

So the common problem with the horn is that they do not work at all? I have seen the "Broken Horn Fix" and "Broken Horn Fix 2". Just wondering because mine is weird in another way. The horn works, when the car is on. But it does nothing when the car is off. It's not too big of a deal, but is it supposed to be this way. If not, any suggestions of what to check?
Thanks,
Eric
