I can't start my car, the key won't turn more than position I.
Tried to wiggle the steering wheel, shift override is working ok, button on the shift knob is popped out, nothing wrong I can see.

I hate to hear bad news about your car here at the end of the year. You have contributed so much to this forum and helped many.

In regards to your key issue- I think you may be in for a new ignition cylinder. I suppose you've tried a different key and the key you're using will unlock the doors?

Yes, the key is the same one i'm using to open doors.
This morning I also removed the shifting knob and activate the park switch manually and still no start. I heard horror stories about this problem......
I hope it won't be too $$$, at this time of the year, you know.

Ok,
I unscrewed the steering cover this morning, and I removed the electrical part of the switch. With the key in position I, I started up the car fine with a screwdriver and was able to drive it correctly. I was worried by an electronic problem, but now I feel better.
I will go to the dealer ASAP to buy a coded switch. I'll keep you updated and will try to take pictures of the job.

I ordered my lock cylinder today. It takes 10 days to code and deliver, it comes with a key but you have to pay to program it. I have 3 so I'll keep this one as a spare as it is.
Price 188$+tx= 215$
I saw their cost on the computer....124$

Less.
A key blank is about 40 bucks and the software costs a dealer about 20-25.
Labor is labor but their real HARD cost is only about 60-65 bucks and it only takes about 10 real minutes to do it

124$ was for the lock cylinder and a blank key only.

I received my lock cylinder and installed it the same day. It took me 2 hours 1/2 to to the job.Used a 90 degrees drill to remove the bolts from the lock.Here are the pics I took:

P.S. I should add that if anyone with an earlier model ('98 and earlier 70 series and 850's) should note that there is NO CHIP in your key...that began in '99.

Today I decided to find what was the problem with my cylinder lock. I tought maybe I could repair it, but it is impossible. The broken part is made of cast aluminum and is very small. This part is a kind of "guillotine" that slides up and down inside the mechanism. Mine was missing a guide pin, preventing it to move freely.
The cause is definitely the steering wheel beeing turned to the left, forcing the steering lock from the right, and also the guillotine on its most vulnerable position. I'm sure it could happen on a brand new lock.
