software upgrades, 2001 S60 2.4T

I have a 2001 S60 2.4T with the tiptronic trans. I am in Monterrey mexico and having issues with my car. currenlty like 5 OBDII codes constantly appear. Air/fuel, trans selinoid, bank 1 exahuast and a couple of others. The car is getting like an avg of 14.9 liters per 100 km. It has 90km and I love the car but hate the issues. I have a message saying the emission system needs a interval and the trunk open sometimes when I unlock the car with the remote. The transmission is acting wierd sometimes and pauses to shift. I am at odds, my wife wants to sell it. A trans specialist said he thinks it could be that the car just needs a software upgrade. Any ideas? Thanks from Mexico

Go to the dealer and get the latest software upgrade. This is essential. The '01 transmissions had a lot of issues (much improved in '02 and later year Volvo's) and many of them are cleared up with the latest software downloads. Also do a full flush of the transmission fluid (instructions are in the repair database here). You will need the designated JWS-3309 fluid and not the older Dexron III fluid. If all of this still doesn't help your transmission, it might just be bad- sorry. The Bank-1 error is most likely a/some vacuum leak(s) or it could be your front 02 sensor. I hope you get these issues cleared up. Even if you wanted to sell the car it would be hard to sell without it running properly.

I am planning to flush the trans but that is not the issue. the trans specialist says it may be the silenoid or just that is needs an upgrade. he thinks the software has deprogrammed or glitches. is it possible a software upgrade could clear everything up?

Hopefully JRL will come on and answer you. He knows much more about your model year car than I do. Unfortunately like I said before, the '01 transmissions were plagued with issues. Not sure if the software upgrade will completely take care of your issues or not, but certainly it won't hurt.

Any idea of the cost? My car was a one owner and last July I bought it. The old owner was not too bright car wise and the last time it was at the dealer was at 40km and that was for brakes. Here a diagnostic costs 1300 pesos (like 125 dls. US) but that would not include anything really just a revision.

Most 01 trannies fail if they were not serviced early and regularly, had the software upgraded to remove the stop neutral.
Naturally you failed to post the mileage (in this case impotant).
If your fluid is dark or black you may be terminal, but it's worth a try to fluch the tranny, download the LATEST software and see what happens.
I suggest you do that, come back and report.
The other stuff is probably either an 02 sensor or cat converter, normal (unfortunately) maintance items for Volvos with over 100+K miles.
EDIT:
Sorry, saw the miles.
At 60K miles I may try a dragon and fill (twice) do it, drive for 500 miles and do it again).
This makes it less possible to dislodge any crud in the tranny and really making it worse.
GET THE SOFTWARE THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT.
You also may need (the above) plus a valve body which is a lot cheaper than replacing a transmission

My trans guy said maybe it is the valvebody but he recommended to get the software upgrade first. My wife wants to sell. It works great most of the time but has its moments or acting wierd. today it did the dash went from "D" to displaying "-" a dash and the car drove real wierd like it was towing something. I tried using the autostick and no help. I stopped the carand put it in park and then it went normal. But 90% of the time it drives fine. just has an emission gas message on. the engine light is on and sometimes an emission service interval message and the orange triangle. I am downloading Vardis as we chat. mayeb that will help. I will be flushing the trans mexican style as soon as I can get the software stuff down.

Hahahaha, here it goes. the guy told me there is a correct way with tanks, but he said what he does is disconnect a line (he seemed to be sure which one) and run the car adding fluid until the fluid coming out is clean. Believe it or not the guy works on Audi's volvo and others. My car seems to be very original and one owner. the neutral crap at stop lights is still there. here I doubt anyone changes it. he thinks doing a software upgrade will fix it. otherwise he thinks maybe the valvebody. really the car is not that bad. my wife just like the 2001 infiniti I30 more. She wants me to sell the volvo tp prevent spending like 1,000 dls which is alot here. (I make like that a month with a BBA)
