Just returned from the wreckers and picked up a drivers seat with "Sips bag" written on the side control panel.
My question is: would this seat work in my 1994 Wagon as I do not have SIPSs on the 94 seat. Are there any things that I should do or could look out for as I am itching to install it.
Thanks in advance

You should be fine. There is a plastic anti trigger device, it is usually orange, that plugs in to prevent the bag from going off.
Here is the page from the manual that describes it.

I guess it is best to just leave it defeated full time.

Lee is correct if the seat bolts to the floor railing correctly. Let us know. I've wondered about different model year seats for awhile myself.

On a scale of 1-10 for difficulty I claim a 1
On a scale of 1-10 for profanity I claim "only" a 2( because I caught my finger between the track and floor anchor.)
The whole job took 45 minutes, but I did stop to pick up all coins in the holes, the chair cost almost nothing after I was finished with the coin collection.(25 CDN for the chair )
There are four bolts holding the track to the floor. It is advised in a manual that you move the seat back and forth to gain access to the bolts, a little problem here, if you have already disconnected the battery. There might be an overide, I did not find it. So before you start make sure that you can access all four bolts with ease. If you are removing a SIPS seat, install the safety device to the SIPS bag sensor,it will be found behind the seat side compartment(control panel). Lift the up the front of the control panel and then slide it back towards the rear of the car. The safety devise is an orange plastic " form" and slides between the sensor and contacts.See picture

Some suggest you wait at least fifteen minutes after the battery is disconnected before putzing around with anything that is related to air bags.May be good advice!!!!!
1) Disconnect battery ( pray that you still remember the radio code)
2)Gently pry the plastic covers for the floor bolts away, if you still have them. You need a size 14 socket for the floor bolts and an extension. Oh! and the right rear bolt compartment has a nasty habit of swallowing sockets.Use gum or tape to hold the socket on the driver if it is loose.
3)Remove all four bolts and disconnect the two electrical connections under the seat.
4)Remove the bolt (12 socket) holding the belt at the side lower seat mount. ( if you are going to keep your existing seat belt, if not you will have to remove the inertia reals.)
A new bolt is required(I did not replace this bolt} Torque to 14ft -lbs
5)Remove the seat "thru" the driver's door or passenger door depending on which seat it is. I would recommend getting an extra pair of hands, the seat is a little heavy and awkward to handle.
I removed the the seat belt only to put it back again because the "new" belt real had jammed.
You have to pop off the side panel, up and out to gain access to the inertia real and bolts.
There are 2 bolts on the inertia reals, tighten to 35 ft-lbs if removed.
Also 1 torx screw I think a 25.
The orange wire that connects to the inertia real just pulls out.

Installation is reverse:with the addition of removing the safety device prior to reconnecting the battery. I left my safety device in as advised earlier.
Tightening sequence of bolts as below:
Rear inner bolt
front inner bolt
rear outer bolt
front outer bolt
inner = middle of the car
outer........ outer side of the car
Torque to 29 ft -lbs
So does it work, yes, I can no go up and down, backwards and fowards, left and right......no that I cannot do. The only problem is the warmer ......I will tackle this another day.

As a foot note there appears to be variations as to the torque specs.
The specs above are from Haynes
Below are from the 850 manual posted on the forum.

so, to clarify. I saw that there are connectors under the 94 seats in my wagon that are not used, and they look like they line up exactly to the seats out of my 97 sedan. the sedan has electric adjustment, seat warmers, and SIPS...so can i hook SIPS up?

Proceed carefully!!!
The SIPS wasn't standard until I think '96 but some of the earlier turbos did get the SIPS. If your old seat has a SIPS plug in the same as the old seat. If you don't have a SIPS sticker on the B pillar leave it unplugged and use the safety to lock it out. I have visions of you hitting the seat heater switch and having the airbag blow.

Lee, little danger of that. SIPS on these cars (and S/V/C70s thru '00) are fully pyrotechnic devices with no electrical components. The trigger is an aluminum blasting cap that feeds into a shock tube into the nitrogen gas generator on the SIPS bag. That's why they have a transport safety device--so hitting the seat in transport won't trigger the bag. '01 and up models have electrical firing systems and are part of the vehicle's SRS. ALL S80s have electrical firing systems.Ozark Lee wrote:Proceed carefully!!!

Even as poorly written as my post was that is great information. The rest of the SRS is all electronically triggered so I figured the SIPS was the same.
Thanks for the heads up. It sounds like it should be plug and play to add SIPS to a non SIPS car by simply changing the seats.
