Would it be difficult for an amateur to jack up a volvo 940 and replace basic suspension parts?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

How much of an amateur are you?

The 940 is no harder to work on than the average car and the suspension is nothing out of the ordinary. However, certain precautions need to be taken in any job of this sort. The jack supplied with the car is only for emergency use such as changing a flat tyre. You would need a good floor jack and axle stands plus the correct tools.

Post back with more info and we should be able to advise you better.

For $30-40 you can get a kit containing a wheeled floor jack, 2 x 1 ton jackstands and wheel chocks from autozone or pepboys etc.

I had a freind who died under a truck , wheels off, when a jackstand let go, so I'm a bit leery of them too, I slide a plastic bucket under the car also, it won't hold the car up for long but I know I can get out quicker than it collapses.
