1995 850 Irratic Idle and Rough Running

Hi all, new member, i have bought a 1995 850 2.5 10 v and just done a service, new air filter, oil filter, oil, plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm and finally leads, and new battery. She ran a little rough before service but not since doing all of the above runs terribly, won't even idle, tried replacing old parts but still no luck. Have hole in front part of exhaust is this affecting it.

Please Please Please help.

John, if you mean you have a hole in the air intake mainifold in front of the engine....yes that would effect the fuel/air metering and cause rough idle. I am sure others will chime in regarding the symptom.

If the hole is in the exhaust down tube before the oxygen sensor that would also effect the fuel air mixture. Either way you need to repair the air or exhaust leaks before you move onto something else.

Are there any codes stored or is your CEL ON?

Hi, there is a hole somewhere at the front end, investigation starts tomorrow. I dont know how to check for codes, if anyone can shed light that would be great. The new plugs were put in, run for 40 seconds on very rough running and then i inspected them to find them sooted up. Therefore too rich a mixture. Will deal with hole tomorrow.

What kind of spark plugs did you use? These cars are very picky about the plugs and even more picky about the plug gap.

I put in a set of Bosch Platinum II plugs and the car would barely run. I got a new set of cheapy Bosch FR7DC plugs and gapped them at .028 inches (I'm not sure how European plug gap is measured) and the car has run like a top ever since.
