2004 s60r fuel pump problems

2004 s60r fuel pump problems

My S60 has been at a Volvo specialist for a month.. It is now on the 3rd fuel pump.. The fuses to the pump keep blowing after 60 miles or so.. Volvo has now told our mechanic that the gas tank needs to be cleaned.. There is no fuel filter and the debris is clogging the pump.. Can anyone confirm a similar situation? We never had a problem with the original pump, but had to replace it because of a broken plastic piece..

First of all, of course it has a fuel filter.
R's can and do have fuel pump issues but 3 is WAY too many.

Volvo has had problems with gas tanks delaminating. This was the problem with son-in-laws XC90 which is 2 or 3 years old. It ate fuel pumps. Finally they replaced the tank and problem is gone. Might check into this.
