Hi all,

Have just got my car back from MOT and they informed me my car was hunting at idle but it still passed.
However they told me it came up main dealer fault and they could not tell me what was wrong and i had to take it to main dealer!

Can anyone advise me other than paying main dealer prices how to overcome the problem!

Thanks
Chris

I'm fairly sure main dealer fault means there was a P1xxx series code (i.e. not an emission code or P0xxx code, but a manufacturer-specific code) -- it's likely the MOT station isn't able to translate those codes into their meaning. If you can get access to a scanner, you can scan the vehicle, read the fault code(s) and then a quick Google search should reveal what it means... Good luck.

If the car was hunting at idle and the car is a '99-'01 model it could be the ETM (check the ETM section of this board) or it may need the throttle body cleaned (despite model year). Does it sometimes surge or spontaneously seem to lose power when you're driving? I agree with a scan tool to check specific codes. Let's hope something shows up that will give you some direction with this.
