Leaking trunk on 740

On two different Volvo 740 sedans (1991), the trunk always leaks in a heavy rain. The water goes in one or the other of the low areas on either side. It is not clear if the water comes in past the gasket which goes all the way around the trunk opening, or if it is coming in at the top of the tail light cluster. There seems to be a drain across the front of the trunk opening, right below the back window. Does this need to be cleaned? Can it be cleaned out? Thanks for any information, Tore

both of my 740's have this problem. Someone out there must have an answer to the trunk leak problem, please and thank you.

Get in the trunk with a flashlight and have a friend spray the car with water and look to see where it comes in. There are drains that go down inside the trunk too look at the hoses and make sure they are ok.

It is very common that water get in to the trunk through the top of the tail light cluster. I have two 740's, and both have had the same problem. Loosen the tail light cluster and put on some car body vax on the rubber sealing and it will be tight.
