transmission work in las vegas??

Hey guys, I have a 01 S60 2.4T and it has problem. I began to feel vibration when accelerating the car a while ago and heard some scratch noise from the front wheel since about 2 weeks ago after a trip to death valley.

I took the car to the dealership and I was told the transmission has problem. I was told I need to replace a new transmission and both drive shafts. Plus labor it will cost me a forturn. Man I cannot afford that much on it and that's not what I wanted to do.

I appreciate if any of you can recommend a garage in Las Vegas which is reliable and good at dealing with volvo and/or transmission work? I hope there is some expert can help me do a rebuilt. It doesn't have to be too cheap but should not rape me off. Thanks.

Nope.
hardly anyone can rebuild these properly, if at all.
I tried a couple of years ago and a waste of time and money, The "Cottman" rebuild lasted 3 months.
You really DO need to install a Volvo rebuit transmission, 01's are notorious for bad transmssions, I'm amazed to see it lasted over 100K miles!
The best you can do is to really try to make a deal with them.
Actual DEALER COST for a transmission is about $1500 and the labor is about 10 hours (or less), anything after that is pure profit
I'm not sure if it really needs axles or not but in your dealings you can (carefully) use that in your negotiations

according to dealer's diagnostic, both drive shafts need to be changed. is that the axles you mentioned? and I can hear some noise like scratch from front wheel part. maybe that's the reason.

transmission cost $2400 for part alone and the two shafts another $800. but the estimated 10hr labor will cost another $1800... they just charge too much on their labor when other garage charge like $30 to $100

I didn't know you can also negotiate the service price with dealer... how?

Things are expensive because your in Vegas. You might try a shop in a nearby state and another city where rates are lower and there are other indy Volvo specialists...Phoenix? Anyway, even after paying for a tow it might be worth it. Oh, and whoever does the work- don't let them put another '01 transmission back in it.
