My jack failed for my na 93 850.

Post by Paul93-850 »

I was using the original volvo jack to lift up the driver side of the car so that I could take off the rear wheel to check the brake pad wear. I put the wheel back on and was turning the jack when it failed! No kidding. It's one of those threaded diamond shaped jacks that has a threaded bar through the middle. This threaded bar goes through a piece of plastic which it pretty much shredded as it came down in a hurry.

Being a bit paranoid, I always keep a big wood block under the frame. The car fell onto the wood block and I jumped a mile. I've always feared that happening and it finally did. I'm glad that no part of me was under the car. Of course, now I had a car on a block and no working jack. A bit of back and forth got the car off of the block.

Has anyone else had this happen? Any reccommendations on how to approach Volvo about this? At the very least, I want them to give me a new jack - for free. Should I approach a dealer or some part of the company?

Thanks,

Paul.

I've used my jack; no problems.

Yes -- be careful. A family friend, dad of 3 girls, died about 10 years ago because of this.
