Volvo 2000 S40 - Strut and CV Axle

Post by MemphisTGR »

If the left front strut needs to be replaced, do I necessarily have to change out the right front strut also?

Any online suggestions to purchase the parts?

Also should I change the CV axles out if I have to replace the strut?

Thanks

CV axle replacement is not necessary when changing the struts. I always replace struts in pairs...if one's bad, the other is soon to go bad. Check both www.fcpgroton.com as well as eeuroparts.com for replacement struts. Shipping is free for orders over $39 from the later site. Also, check your swaybar endlinks (if you have front swaybars...not sure if your model year had them or not) and replace these if their bushings are worn out (also in pairs). Good luck and let us know how you did.

I'd replace the strut mount bearings while I had it apart - they're not that expensive and sometimes go out.

Also, check here for parts, you might save a few bucks:

Don't forget to get a wheel alignment when you're done.
