False Read On Fuel Gauge & Cold Weather

2001 Volvo V60

This morning was colder then its been previously and my car was iced over. It started fine, everything's running well and I know that my fuel is atleast 3/4 full but the fuel gauge never left E.

My assumption is that the cold is interfering with the censor that interacts with the fuel gauge. Does the censor need to be cleaned? Or is the result of condensation in the tank or the fuel line due to colder then previous temps overnight?

I'll add that I normally park my car in a different spot so that by the time I leave for work, its thawed out from direct exposure to the sun. I ended up in the shadow of the building last night/this morning so it never met the sun and was well iced over even at 10 a.m. this morning.
