01 V70 XC Lights Flickering
01 V70 XC Lights Flickering
Noticed tonight that headlights, all interior courtesy lights, dash instrument lights all flicker lightly and rapidly. Any ideas on how to fix?
Bump. Anyone? Had car in yesterday. Battery was slightly discharged so they put it on a quick charger. Did not resolve issue and they said they could not duplicate. Charging system checked out OK. Lights still flicker, esp. noticeable with dome lights on at night. Have I stumped this group? Guess I will need to call the Car Talk guys.

Mine has done that when the battery couldn't hold the correct amps any longer. If the battery seems to go again for no apparent reason, I would say that's what it is and a new one will resolve all this flickering that's going on.

FYI. Brought in to my local indep mech. Ended up being alternator. They took it out and did bench test and confirmed was discharging battery under load. Bad diode? Throwing AC current? Battery tested OK. This alternator (the stock Bosch) was rebuilt two years ago (fall of '06) and unfortunately was not under warranty anymore. They are replacing with another rebuilt alternator (guess that's the way they come now) that is not a Bosch. They claim the Bosch are garbage.
Resurrecting this thread because the problem's back. Further description:
This isn't an intermittent flicker like some have described where dash lights may flicker on and off every 5 seconds or so. It is a rapid flicker that is paired with engine speed. The faster the rev, the faster the flicker. Happens on all interior lights (door, dome, etc.) and instrument panel, especially noticeable at night. Headlights also flicker. Mostly noticed at idle or low rpms. Alternator has been recently checked.
Question, would the decaying and crumbling black plastic wire harness looming in the engine bay and under the spark plug cover have anything to do with this? Should (or can) spark plug wires going to ignition coils be replaced along with the looming? What else should I be looking for?
Thanks in advance.
