Thank you for this opportunity to get some info. I have read in several websites of people using the Mobil 3309 in the 5-speed Aisin auto trans for Volvo as a replacement for the Volvo fluid. Do you know how long the Mobil 3309 has been used and what results; years and miles of use? What are the verified sources of claims that it was produced for Volvo and the same fluid as Volvo? Don't tell me you heard it "somewhere." Thank you.

Welcome to MVS.
I have no idea how long that Mobil has been producing the #3309 ATF. They were the first to put it out and on their bottle claim it is JWS-3309. Volvo's own fluid and instructions in their manuals say to use JWS-3309 compliant fluid. Volvo won't tell you who makes theirs. Analysis of it on http://www.bobistheoilguy.com shows that it's the same formula. Anyway, I've flushed our '04 V70 twice (at 30K miles apart) with the Mobil-3309 fluid with good results. Many Volvo dealers will also use the Mobil fluid instead of their own as a courtesy to their customers who are out of warranty to help keep down the cost for them. Btw, Toyota Type T-IV is also the same fluid....they also have cars that have the Aisin-Warner 5 speed automatic transmissions which call for JWS-3309 compliant fluid. Both the Toyota and Mobil fluid are much, much cheaper than Volvo's. Of course, if you want to continue using Volvo's own, then you are more than welcome to. It's a free world!
