2001 V70 T5 with "Neutral Control" on AW55-50 transmisssion
I just purchased a 2001 v70 T5 wagon with 108K mles on it. Test drove it, and didn't notice a subtle transmission issue that became apparent after it warmed up. The torque converter dropped out after the car came to a stop, then re-engages when the brake pedal is released. After doing some research, I found that this is normal for the year and appication of this transmission. Yet, if one went from the brake to the gas quickly you got a hard engagement that can't do the transmission any good. Took it back under a 1K transmission warranty, and they had Volvo dealer disable the neutral control, which was an authorized fix and fine by me. But my question is did anyone like this feature or have they all been disabled by now?

In the '01's Volvo did an experiment where they had the car go into neutral at a stop. Since then it has been found that this is most likely one of the culprits responsible for the early tranny deaths in this model. As you said, you can get this "feature" disabled. However, those who are not in the "know" have not had this done and there has been no "official recall" for this known issue. Btw, hardly anyone likes the Volvo experiment.
